Fall Activity Schedule 

                

Grades K-2nd

Grant St. After School Program – The YMCA provides a fun filled after school program each day from the end of the school day until 6 pm.  Enrollment is flexible ranging from daily participation to an occasional drop in.

Chimacum After school Program Meets at the Chimacum Primary School gym and provides a fun filled after school program each day from the end of the school day until 6 pm.  Enrollment is flexible ranging from daily participation to an occasional drop in.

Rallyball Tennis - Instructor Julie Jablonski will teach this class on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:15 pm, at the Mt. View tennis courts and gym starting Sept. 11 and ending Oct. 16. Focus will be on basic skills, games, and fun! Fee: $20.00 (High school and/or parent volunteers needed.)

Pokemon Game - Learn to play Pokemon with the new Diamond/Pearl rules additions.  A pre-constructed deck will be supplied for each player. Please don’t bring your own cards to the first class. Steve Goldenbogen will instruct this 4-week class in the Mt. View cafeteria on Tuesdays from 3:30–4:30 pm, starting Sept. 11. Participants will ride PT School District buses from Grant Street to Mt. View School. Fee: $20 (includes card deck)

Early Release Recreational Swim – The City of PT and the YMCA are offering this 9-week recreational swim on Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 pm, starting Sept. 12 and ending Nov. 7. Swimmers will ride PT School District buses from Grant Street to the pool at Mt. View School. Trained lifeguards will supervise during the recreational swimming. After the swim YMCA staff will provide fun activities for the students until 3:30 when they get on the School District buses to ride home on their usual routes. Swimmers should wear their bathing suits to school under their clothes and make sure to bring a towel. Fee: $30.00 You must pre-register for this activity.

 

Grades 3-5th

Fencing – All levels welcome.  Begin or continue your study of this ancient sport of swordsmanship: footwork, body position, parries and attacks. Sarah Melancon will conduct this 4-week fencing class in the gym at Grant Street School on Tuesdays from 4-5 pm, beginning Oct. 2.   Fee: $25.00

Rock Climbing Climb the wall at Vertical World in Bremerton using state of the art equipment and the safest techniques.  Join us on Tuesday, Nov. 6, leaving the Mt. View parking lot at 3:30 pm and returning by around 7:00.

(Participants will call home when the van reaches the Hood Canal Bridge so parents can anticipate exact time of arrival.) Fee: $30.00

SEQ CHAPTER \h \r 1Pottery - Make functional pottery and sculptures using handbuilding techniques.  Instructor Holly Green will teach this 5-week all-ages class in the Art room at Blue Heron Middle School on Wednesdays from 6–8 pm, beginning Sept. 19.  All skill levels are welcome. Fee: $40.00 (incl. all materials)

Junior Golf for Boys and Girls - Learn the fundamentals of golf’s short game and full swing in a relaxed setting.  Instructor Gabe Tonan will teach this 6-week program at the Port Townsend Golf Club, 1948 Blaine St., on Mondays from 2:30-3:30 pm, beginning Sept. 10. Fee: $25.00

Tennis Club & Futures Tennis Team - Have fun learning tennis and preparing for future team tennis. Instructor Julie Jablonski will coach on Wednesdays, starting Sept. 12.  Meet at the Port Townsend High School courts (at Blue Heron Middle School on rain days) from 2:30-3:30 pm on Sept. 12, Sept. 24, and Oct. 10 and  from 12:30-1:30 pm on early release days Sept. 19, Oct. 3, and Oct. 17.  Please bring your own racket if possible (some will be available). This class will end with a 14 & under team trip to the Portland Tennis Fest on Oct. 20-21. Fee: $20.00

Running Club Coach Jeni Little will lead runs on the track and in the neighborhood in a program designed for runners of all abilities. This 6-week class meets in the Blue Heron commons on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15-3:15 pm, beginning Sept. 11. Class includes optional trips to the Salt Creek Invitational on Sept. 15 and Fort Worden Invitational on Oct. 6.  Fee: $35.00

Object Manipulation:  Juggling & Other Tricks - Learn the art of juggling and show games with local juggler and acrobat Coffee Joe.  This 4-week class meets in the Blue Heron gym on Thursdays at 2:15 pm, starting Oct. 4.  Fee: $20.00

Beginning Sign Language Class - Start with the ABC’s and then learn lots of fun signs.  Learn to sign a song and perform that song-in-sign at the last class session.  Instructor Ann Clark, who has signed on stage with famous recording artists, will conduct this 4-week class in the Blue Heron conference room on Thursdays from 2:15-3:15 pm, starting Nov. 1.  Fee: $30.00

Secrets of Port Townsend - Historian Joyce Cox will take you back in time and reveal the secrets of your home town.  It’s all about sailors and sailing ships, big buildings and big dreams.  Take a peek into Port Townsend’s rowdy past on Oct. 2 from 2:15-3:15 pm in the Blue Heron conference room.  Fee: $5.00

Adventures in Spanish for 5th through 8th Graders Join the club and get ready for a Spanish immersion experience in a foreign country.  Join leader Rebekah McGuire in the Blue Heron conference room on Wednesdays from 2:15-3:15 pm, beginning Sept. 12.  Meetings will include conversational skills, reading, writing, games, food preparation, music and art activities, as well as special guests. Travel to Guatemala during Spring break, March 22-April 11, for intensive cultural immersion focused on language skills, coupled with providing a service project in the area visited. Drop-In Adult Indoor Volleyball – Tuesday and Thursday nights at Blue Heron Middle School from 7:00-9:30 pm, beginning Sept. 18.  Two courts allow for all skill levels.  No registration required.  Small fee at door.

Drop-In Adult Indoor Soccer – Wednesday nights at Blue Heron Middle School from 7-9 pm, beginning Oct. 3. No registration required. Small fee at door.

Teach Your Baby to Sign- Infants can start communicating as young as 6 months old. Just imagine how exciting it will be when your baby can tell you why they are crying, where they hurt, or what they want.  Instructor Anne Clark will focus on teaching parents or care-givers appropriate signs and then how to teach those signs to their infants. This 4-week class meets on Thursdays from 3:30–4:30 pm, starting Nov. 1 in the Blue Heron School conference room.  Fee: $30.00

Adult Beginning Orchestra Have you always wanted to play a string instrument? Did you hang up your violin, viola, cello or string bass many years ago?  Here’s your chance to play beginning through intermediate classical repertoire in a friendly, supportive atmosphere.  Instructor Barbara Henry will teach this group class at Blue Heron in room 302 on Thursdays from 7:00-8:30 p.m. starting Sept. 13.  Advanced ensemble will be available if desired.  Fee:  $10 per class
